Alex Fried Memorial Fund

The Alex Fried Memorial Fund supports PACE participants in need of support due to situations impacting their housing situation.  Upham’s PACE is proud to work collaboratively with the City of Boston, Boston Housing Authority and the Office of Long Term Services and Supports to help end chronic homelessness by enrolling eligible adults in our program. These adults often require the very basic necessities to live independently.  Some examples of basic necessities that our participants seek: small kitchen appliances, bath towels, bed linens, furniture, etc.

The Alex Fried Memorial Fund is our way to memorialize and preserve the memory of Alex Fried, a Nurse Practitioner who worked for Upham’s PACE starting in 1996 until his death in 2007. Alex embodied the mission of PACE. He strove for excellence and showed an unequivocal commitment to caring for the most vulnerable individuals in the community. As his colleague Dr. Adam Burrows remarked in his eulogy, “During his tenure with PACE, Alex always sought, and usually found, the better nature of everyone with whom he came in contact.  Alex always gave the impression that he had all the time in the world for anyone who sought his attention and care.  Alex is remembered by his steadfast grace in the face of adversity, and his ability to forge ahead despite obstacles small and large.  He was a healer in the true sense of the word, attentive to both body and mind. “

We are a better organization because of the love and commitment Alex offered PACE.
